Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, the Huntley-Evans building in all its Art Deco glory was designed in 1921 by architect Alfred F. Priest. Boasting the city’s first elevator, the three-story building at the corner of Brand Boulevard and Harvard Street was considered the city's finest business structures of its day. In 1922, it became home to The Famous Department Store, Glendale’s first department store and just about the whole city turned out for the Saturday night opening party to marvel at the grandeur as the Shrine orchestra played in the background.
