Your mother may not be your manager, your step-father may not be a gold medal winning Olympic athlete like Bruce Jenner, and very possibly everyone in your family may not have a name that starts with K. But, you too can get married like a Kardashian! This month’s gala wedding of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries (yes, he spells his name with a K too!) followed many wedding style trends we have already seen in
Los Angeles banquet halls and wedding venues for 2011, and set a few trends we’ll be seeing for the rest of the year.
Kim Kardashian’s wedding invitation early in the month gave a hint to the wedding color scheme. The black and white wedding invitations each came in their own silver box and featured hundreds of jet black hematite crystals. Continuing the trend (first seen at the royal wedding), the bride and all of her bridesmaids donned white dresses. The groom's side was classic black. Rob Kardashian, Lamar Odom, Bruce Jenner, and Kris' father, William Humphries all sported black Zegna tuxes. The entire wedding party made their way down a black and white runner, ending at a beautiful jewel encrusted black and white arch. The reality star chose a clean, fresh, white palate for her flowers. Starting with the exquisite Petals LA floral designs for the wedding shower and rehearsal dinner to the over the top wedding creations by Mark’s Garden for the wedding – white was everywhere. It is rumored that over 50,000 flowers were used, including white roses, white hydrangea, and white phalaenopsis orchids. Elegant and classy, Kim made sure to keep true to her color scheme from beginning to end. And no end is complete without cake. The couples’ six foot tall black and white chocolate chip studded wedding cake featured 10 layers of decadent chocolate and vanilla swirl.
Traditional touches are another theme we will be seeing a lot more of this year. While the Kardashian/Humphries wedding was far from “traditional” in many ways, they made sure to incorporate personal touches of tradition. From the poignant "something old" sewn into Kim's dress – a heart-shaped piece of fabric cut from one of her late father Robert Kardashian's signature Tommy Bahama shirts to the inclusion of 20-month-old nephew Mason as ring bearer, it was clear the wedding was as much about being grand and spectacular as it was about family, love, and tradition.
And of course, Kim’s wedding would not be complete without setting a bridal trend of her own. Keep your eyes open for LA brides adding a jeweled headpiece to their traditional tulle veils. Kim may have taken it over the top with a 65 carat, $2.5 million diamond headpiece designed by Lorraine Schwartz, but the trend has been slowly growing. The diamond headpiece replaces the conventional tiara and made this Armenian princess look and feel like one on her wedding day.
